Football’s Best Training Ground Fights

The man with the camouflaged car made the headlines again this week after he was photographed midway through a physical altercation with his manager, Mancini. This lead The Soccer Sphere to go on another one of its frequent youtube video hunts: this time the subject was training ground altercations.

John Hartson v Eyal Berkovic

Eyal Berkovic took offence to John Hartson’s suggestion that he might be play acting and lashes out with all the ferocity of small kitten. John Hartson’s reaction to this, I think it’s fair to say, is not proportional, as he takes aim with his left foot and delivers a kick square to Berkovic’s chin.

Winner by KO John Hartson

Freddie Ljunberg v Olof Mellberg

Mellberg takes exception to Ljunberg during a training game and takes him out with a tackle that certainly has a bit of bite to it. Ljunberg jumps up from the deck and flies at Mellberg. Unfortunately no clean blows are landed but three Sweden do end up in a heap as teammates try to break the fight up.

Winner by split decision Olof Mellberg

Carlos Puyol v Vicente

This is really just a case of glorified handbags. Hands are flapping all over the place and at one point Puyol pushes Vicente.

Winner by unanimous decision Carlos Puyol

QPR v China

The plan was for QPR to play a friendly game against the Chinese national side, the outcome was a full scale war. QPR’s niggling physicality pushes one Chinese player over the edge who, quite literally, jumps all over the offending QPR player, mounting him and delivering blow after blow to the QPR man. This onslaught continues, to little obvious effect, for around 5 seconds at which point the QPR bloke has had enough and body slams the Chinese man to the ground. Both benches clear and a mass brawl commences which QPR win convincingly leaving China’s Zheng Tao unconscious.

Winner by KO QPR
